Hi, I'm Janyk

I'm a product minded engineer interested in democratising access to a healthier life, using technology and data. This is where you can read a bit about my journey to learn and create more in this space.

Product and engineering pillars I like to think about

Learning

Said well in the classic "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries.. Startups exist not to make stuff, make money, or serve customers. They exist to learn how to build a sustainable business.

While absolutely the end goal of any product is to serve its' users and customers, approaching the journey with an attitude of learning will help you get to the right solution.

Pragmatism

At the beginning of my career I was super excited about working on specific technologies, and I still get excited about new technologies! But as i've grown I realised that no technology, library or framework in itself is a panacea.

Learning about product, teams and business - one of the skills I continue to refine is picking the right tool or solution, for the right time.

Leverage

Working in fast moving, resource constrained environments often means you can't always invest as much as you would like in infrastructure for automated testing, developer or build tooling.

Fostering a culture of advocacy for these practices however is important for creating leverage. Being able to lean on systems to do repetitive work like testing or deployment enables your team to focus on adding value to your product or system.

Alignment

Something thats becoming clear to me as an IC and Tactical Leader, is that alignment can solve so many problems for your team, and delivery.

Empowering and encouraging individuals to have clear alignment on the vision and purpose of their work will enable them to achieve better outcomes in their product, and often technically too.
