As someone who is passionate about data, I have always been fascinated with the power of health data to make better decisions and gain a deeper understanding of our bodies. This led me to embark on a unique experiment where I combined two powerful tools - MyFitnessPal and Whoop fitness tracker - to track my daily caloric intake and physical activity.
For three months, I meticulously recorded my food consumption on MyFitnessPal and monitored my whoop recovery score on the my Whoop fitness tracker. On days when my recovery score was low, I noticed I'd indulge in unhealthy foods that were high in carbohydrates and sugar.
Inspired by this revelation, I decided to leverage my findings to create a new habit - mindful eating.
I developed a tool called Mindful Me on Github, to use my recovery data as a daily prompt to encourage me to make healthier food choices.
The system grabs my recovery data every morning and predicts my calorie intake using a regression model I trained on AWS SageMaker.
Aside from a pretty powerful closed looped system, I got to learn a bunch about the SageMaker service and even made my first open source contribution to a serverless library to support SageMaker batch transform jobs
